A History and Wildlife Preserve, Brookgreen Gardens offers an assortment of Educational Programs for Student Groups. The beautifully landscaped sculpture gardens, the Lowcountry Zoo, accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, is home to animals native to the Southeastern region of the United States such as river otters, alligators, owls, hawks, foxes, deer, eagles and our new waterfowl exhibit, Flights of Passage, all in their native habitat. Students enjoy Ricefield Creek Excursion tours aboard a 40-foot pontoon boat along the banks where Carolina Gold long grain rice was once cultivated on former rice plantations and the opportunity to learn about Brookgreen’s rich plantation history.

The Whispering Wings Butterfly House or a lively Gullah cultural program of enthralling Gullah songs and stories is given by author and former Nickelodeon TV star, Ron Daise. Lunch facilities are available including an outdoor picnic area for a boxed lunch. A Performance Location is available for musical groups upon request. Discounted student admission is available with reservation. Brookgreen is just 30 minutes south of Myrtle Beach, SC.
