METEOR CRATER, 35 miles east of Flagstaff, Arizona on I-40, was formed nearly 50,000 years ago when a meteorite 150 feet across and weighing several hundred thousand tons slammed into the rocky plain, leaving a crater that is 550 feed deep and nearly a mile across. The visitor center the Interactive Learning Center, state-of-the-art theater, the Astronaut Wall of Fame, an Apollo Space Capsule and an overview of the history of impact craters on earth and in the universe. Open year round
